Blue Bombers beat Redblacks for fifth straight home win

Matt Nichols threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns on a rainy night as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 29-9 on Friday.

It was Winnipeg’s fifth straight victory at Investors Group Field this year, boosting its overall record to 9-3. That retains the Bombers in 2nd position in the CFL West Division, three points behind Calgary. read more

Blue Jays look ready for season to Finish in sleepy loss to Royals

Brickley scores twice to help lead Panthers over Predators

Connor Brickley had two goals and an assist, helping the Florida Panthers beat the Nashville Predators 5-3 at a preseason split-squad match on Tuesday night.

Henrik Haapala, Michael Matheson and Denis Malgin also scored for Florida. Starting goaltender James Reimer stopped all 15 shots he faced, and book Harri Sateri allowed three goals on 19 shots. read more

Golovkin, Alvarez Struggle to draw middleweight world title fight

Gennady Golovkin retained his middleweight titles Saturday night, fighting to a draw with Canelo Alvarez in a brutal battle that ended with both fighters with their hands in victory.

The middleweight showdown lived up to its hype as the two fighters exchanged enormous punches and went after each other for 12 rounds. Neither fighter was down and seemed seriously hurt but both landed some big punches to the head that had the audience screaming in excitement. read more
